Peter Moger

Peter Moger was born in the East Riding of Yorkshire.  He read Music at Merton College, Oxford and, after postgraduate study in composition, worked as a schoolteacher before training for ordination at St John’s College, Durham.  After a curacy at Whitby, he served as Precentor at Ely Cathedral, as a parish priest, then as Secretary of the Church of England Liturgical Commission.  From 2010-2019 he was Canon Precentor (and latterly Acting Dean) of York Minster, and from 2019-2023 served in the Scottish Episcopal Church as priest on the Isle of Lewis.  He returned to England in 2023 where he is Sub Dean of Christ Church, Oxford.

Peter is the author of Crafting Common Worship, the editor of the Church of England’s Lectionary, and was until recently commissioning editor of the popular series Reflections for Daily Prayer.  He contributed several hymn tunes to the 2013 edition of Hymns Ancient and Modern.  He has a keen interest in the interface of music and theology, and in particular the transmission of Biblical texts through musical settings.
